Find your station exit

At JR Ueno, look for the Park Gate and Park Exit signs. Tokyo Metro Ginza G16/Hibiya H18 and Keisei Ueno have separate gates; their exit numbering does not match the JR Park Exit.
- The Park Exit photograph is from 2023. Use today's station map and signs for your route rather than an old photograph's exact layout.
- From Metro, choose a surface exit marked for Ueno Park, then use the park information board. Do not enter the JR paid area just to cut through the station without a valid ticket.
Choose transport
Walking in the park is different from entering its zoo or museums. A transport pass does not automatically cover JR, Keisei or admission to attractions inside the park.
- The overseas-visitor Tokyo Subway Ticket covers Metro and Toei, not JR or Keisei. Compare a stored-value card or ordinary fare if making only a short return trip.
- Check passport eligibility, exchange station and QR redemption, activation, validity and cancellation for the option you buy. Count the actual covered rides in your day.
Orient in the park

At the Park Exit, find Shinobazu Pond on the information map before walking. Continuing north toward the museums can take you away from the pond.
- For a small first visit, follow the marked park paths toward the pond. If adding a museum, mark its separate entrance and check its own closed days first.
- Blossom photographs show spring conditions. They do not predict autumn scenery, bloom dates or the same crowd level on your visit.
Reach the water

At the pond, match the shoreline and Bentendo building to the park map. Lotus-covered and open-water areas look different depending on the season.
- Stay on designated paths beside the water and keep shared walking space clear. Do not imitate wildlife feeding seen in other visitors' photographs.
- Bentendo is not the boat-rental counter. Boats have separate opening and payment arrangements; they are not included in an ordinary park walk.
Choose your return
After the pond and Bentendo area, decide which station gate you need: JR Ueno, Metro Ueno or Keisei Ueno. Follow that operator's signs rather than simply the word Ueno.
- Routes back to the upper park can include slopes or stairs. With a pushchair or wheelchair, check the current map for the gentler accessible path.
- Add a zoo or museum only if there is time and admission available. This walk does not reserve entry to either institution.
