Choose the Ginza Line

From Ueno G16, ride through Inaricho G17 and Tawaramachi G18 to Asakusa G19: three stops without a transfer.
- JR Ueno, Keisei-Ueno and subway Ueno have different gates. Look for the orange G and G16, not just the district name.
- Ueno’s Hibiya Line H18 is not this route. Asakusa and Asakusabashi are different stations too.
Prepare a ticket
For one journey, compare an IC-card or single fare first. A Tokyo Subway Ticket is worth comparing only with your other planned subway rides.
- The linked overseas-visitor product excludes Japanese passport holders. Metro/Toei coverage does not include JR or Keisei.
- Check whether your option uses direct QR entry or a machine exchange, its remaining validity and cancellation terms before paying.
Check Asakusa direction

On the Ginza platform, confirm Inaricho as the next station and Asakusa as the destination. Ueno-hirokoji is the opposite direction.
- Read the current direction and adjacent-station signs rather than memorising a platform number from an old photograph.
- Let passengers off first and keep bags clear of the doors. This subway ride does not require a reserved seat.
Exit towards Kaminarimon

At Asakusa, follow Kaminarimon signs and the current station map. Ginza Line Exit 1 is a common pedestrian reference point.
- Toei Asakusa, Tobu and Tsukuba Express entrances are separate; their exit numbering should not be substituted for the Ginza Line map.
- If stairs are unsuitable, use the operator’s lift route instead. The commonly mentioned stair exit is not everyone’s best exit.
Walk along Nakamise

After identifying Kaminarimon, follow Nakamise towards Hozomon and Senso-ji. Treat the shopping street and active worship spaces differently.
- Step aside before taking photographs. Eat purchases where the shop permits and dispose of packaging appropriately instead of blocking the central flow.
- Street access, shop hours and temple-hall hours are different. A night photograph does not mean every shop will still be open.
Choose what comes next
For a short visit, return to the Ginza Line after the temple area. With more time, consider a separate walk towards the Sumida River.
- To return to Ueno, choose the Shibuya direction and confirm Tawaramachi as the next stop.
- Continuing to Skytree requires a separate Toei or Tobu route choice. Sharing the Asakusa name does not make the platforms or fares interchangeable.
