Choose Ichon

Ichon Line 4 station sign 430
Archival Ichon Line 4 platform, 2019

From Myeongdong, take Line 4 toward Seoul Station and continue to Ichon. Check the station name 이촌 and Line 4 number 430 before getting off; Icheon in Gyeonggi-do is a different place.

  • If arriving on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line, follow the museum and Line 4 interchange signs inside Ichon rather than assuming every platform uses the same exit.
  • The station-sign photo identifies the place. It is not a current platform-number guide; use the departure board for your return train.

Follow Exit 2

Look for Exit 2 and National Museum of Korea signs. The official address is 137 Seobinggo-ro. Use the marked museum approach and the current station map for the connecting passage or accessible street route.

  • Use Exit 2 museum signs; another station exit is not automatically the same approach. Check the station map before leaving the concourse.
  • Check lift signs before leaving the paid area if stairs are difficult. Allow walking time between the railway platform and the museum building; arriving at the station is not arriving at a gallery.

Pay for the journey

Seoul subway ticket and reload machines

Use a supported stored-value card or a single-journey ticket for the train. A transport card does not buy exhibition admission, and topping it up is separate from buying the physical card.

  • The optional Klook card is for airport collection. Match your terminal, collection counter and operating hours; if already in Seoul, compare local purchase rather than returning to the airport.
  • Museum permanent-gallery admission is free. A pass or paid tour is not required merely to enter the permanent collection; special exhibitions can have separate fees.

Find the main building

At the museum grounds, use the building and pond as orientation landmarks. Follow signs to the main visitor entrance, then pick up a floor map before choosing galleries.

  • Do not confuse the National Hangeul Museum or an outdoor pavilion with the permanent-gallery entrance. Follow the institution name on the sign rather than a building's appearance alone.
  • Ask the information desk about bag storage and current restrictions before entering. Keep walkways clear when photographing the large exterior or the pond.

Pick a small visit

Collection reference: ancient Greek helmet, National Museum of Korea

Choose one or two permanent-gallery areas from today's floor map instead of trying to cover every floor. Read object labels for the date, material and purpose; exhibition positions can change.

  • The helmet image is a collection example, not a promise that this object is on display in a particular room today. Check the current collection or exhibition listing for a must-see object.
  • Special exhibitions and the Children's Museum have their own entry arrangements. Free permanent admission does not reserve either one; check the programme you actually intend to visit.

Check your return

The museum's current general schedule is 09:30–17:30 on Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri/Sun and until 21:00 on Wed/Sat, with last entry 30 minutes earlier. Check closure notices and gallery maintenance before travelling.

  • The museum closes on January 1, Seollal and Chuseok; permanent and special galleries also have designated maintenance Mondays. Outdoor-area access is a separate schedule.
  • Return to Ichon using the same marked route. For Myeongdong on Line 4, confirm the northbound service and next stops toward Seoul Station; do not board the Gyeongui–Jungang Line by mistake.
