Route
With only one day, choose eastern Higashiyama or western Arashiyama rather than squeezing in both. This suggested route stays in Higashiyama.
Planning example
- Use Kiyomizu-dera area → Sannenzaka → Ninenzaka → Gion as a one-direction walking outline. Arrange transport to the starting area first, and check whether your footwear and luggage suit slopes and steps.
- If you book an afternoon activity, fix its meeting point and start time first. In rain or fatigue, shorten the final Gion walk and head to the booked meeting point.
Kiyomizu & Gion

Start around Kiyomizu-dera and consider walking down toward Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka. Check your footwear and luggage before tackling steps and slopes.
Photo etiquette

Follow Kyoto's visitor guidance and the individual signs at temples and lanes. Respect private-property restrictions.
Activity booking
For a paid activity, work backwards from its start time. Check the cancellation deadline, meeting point, duration and late-arrival policy before booking.
