Find Exit 5

At Gwanghwamun Station on Line 5, follow Exit 5 and set Cheonggye Plaza as your walking destination. The plaza at the western start of the stream is different from the much farther Cheonggyecheon Museum.
- Allow a few minutes from the station. Check the map before crossing the broad junctions; use marked pedestrian crossings. If you need step-free access, consult the station lift map instead of assuming Exit 5 has a lift.
Prepare the fare

The stream walk itself needs no attraction ticket. A normal subway ticket or supported stored-value card covers the train journey; a Tmoney card is not an unlimited travel pass.
- The optional card below is airport collection. Match terminal, counter hours and card-only versus preloaded balance. Already downtown? Buying a card locally avoids travelling back to the airport solely for collection.
Check before descending

At Cheonggye Plaza, first look for the start of the watercourse and an open, signed entrance down to the path. Stop at any closed gate or safety barrier. Keep the upper street as your alternative route.
- These photographs show past conditions, not a promise of today's lighting, events or open entrances. Do not use stepping stones when wet or crowded; a nearby bridge is the safer crossing.
Choose a short walk

From the western starting area, follow the stream east only as far as suits your time and energy. Record the name of the bridge where you turn around so that the return point is easy to find.
- Going down the stream does not keep you beside Gwanghwamun Station. To return there, retrace to Cheonggye Plaza and use your saved station map. Use signed ramps where available; steps are not a step-free route.
Leave early in rain

Water can rise rapidly, including during apparently light rain. Follow closure announcements and staff directions and go straight to the nearest open exit to street level; do not shelter under a bridge.
- If the lower path is closed, stay on the upper pavement or choose an indoor stop. Decorative fountains and temporary outdoor reading areas shown in archive photos are not guaranteed daily activities.
