City & airport rail

Plan the Taoyuan Airport MRT journey into town separately from your Taipei city MRT rides. Airport MRT A1 and city Taipei Main Station are not adjacent platforms, so allow walking time for the interchange.
Planning example
- For a city example, ride the blue Bannan Line from Taipei Main BL12 to Ximen BL11, one stop. On the Dingpu/Far Eastern Hospital side, confirm Ximen as the next station, rather than heading toward Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.
- This is not the Airport MRT A1–Beimen walking transfer. It starts inside city MRT BL12; if arriving from the airport, use the separate airport-route guide.
Tickets
A supported card such as EasyCard pays from stored balance; single journeys use the ticket medium currently sold, including QR tickets. Compare a timed pass with your actual routes and do not assume a city pass includes the Airport MRT.
Purchase & reload

Check the card cost and usable balance separately, then follow the reload screen: language → read card → amount and payment → completion. The photo shows older equipment, so screens and payment options may differ; leave the card in place until completion is confirmed.
IC & QR

Scan a QR ticket at its marked scanner or tap an IC card at its reader, and check for the green proceed signal. These photos show city MRT gates; keep the same ticket or card for exit, and ask staff if it is rejected.
Direction

BL12 in the photo is city Taipei Main Station, not Airport MRT A1. Find your next station toward the destination on the map, check the platform destination and stops, and let passengers leave first.
Transfers
For a connection, follow the next line’s colour, code and arrows rather than exit signs. A change to the Airport MRT or another operator may involve separate gates and fares, even when the station name is similar.
Exits

Scan the same QR ticket or tap the same IC card again at your destination. Use the exit directory to match your hotel or sight, as illustrated at Zhongshan, rather than taking the first exit you see.
Lifts

Check the station map to see whether the lift is at your planned numbered exit. The photo shows Nanjing Fuxing exit 1 as an example; look up your own destination station separately.
Rules & last train
Put refreshments away before the no-food-or-drink zone; restrictions include drinking water and chewing gum. For a late return or airport trip, check the date, direction, terminal and final transfer, and find an operating alternative if trains have finished.
